
Business Need
The business need was to create a complete repair training lab for inexperienced employees in the appliance repair industry. The objective was to upskill them in repairing products effectively in a few weeks by providing a blended experience of virtual and hands-on training.
My Role
- Oversaw the project and ensured it met the needs of the stakeholders
- Managed a large training inventory procurement process and related budgets
- Led a team of builders, developers, and contractors to create applications and activities for learning
- Prototyped mobile and portable hands-on training solutions for scalability and cost reduction
- Developed virtual experiences to supplement and enhance the learning experience



Effectiveness
The repair training lab was designed to provide an interactive and immersive experience for employees. The virtual and hands-on training, combined with the use of visual aids and portable training solutions, allowed for an effective and efficient learning experience. Solutions like the virtual multimeter thermistor testing simulator provided a novel and scalable option for technicians to practice their skills, while VR experiences allowed for a more in-depth understanding of the products. Overall, the repair training lab was successful in meeting the demand for a dynamic and scalable repair training solution and providing employees with the necessary skills to repair products effectively.
- Trained over 500 remote technicians to be appliance repair certified within the first year
- Constrained new hire training to 6 weeks total (3 weeks virtual and 3 weeks onsite)
- Supported large class sizes by maximizing limited trainer headcount and supplementing with virtual and self-paced activities
